ORANGE PRODUCTION, TREE INVENTORY AND GREENING SURVEY FOR THE SÃO PAULO AND WEST-SOUTHWEST MINAS GERAIS CITRUS BELT
The Crop Forecast Survey (PES) is the main source for this platform, which provides dynamic and interactive online data on orange production, tree inventory and greening survey for the São Paulo and West-Southwest Minas Gerais citrus belt. PES has been carried out by Fundecitrus since 2015 in cooperation with Markestrat and full professors at FEA-RP/USP and the department of Math and Science at FCAV/Unesp. Additionally, a technical committee comprising citrus growers, representatives of orange juice companies, academics, and Fundecitrus collaborators is responsible for suggesting operational and methodological improvements.
PES information aims to allow the disclosure of general data on the citriculture profile to the market at every crop season, always keeping the identity of participating citrus growers confidential. Therefore, a strict information management policy has been developed to regulate the management of confidential information within Fundecitrus, with the main purpose of fully meeting its social goals, and for it to continue being a reference in generating and disseminating knowledge and technology for health and competitiveness in citriculture.
Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that production forecasts are subject to uncertainty, especially due to climatic conditions, which may not materialize as predicted. For that reason, the forecast is updated throughout the crop year based on data on early fruit drop and fruit size obtained through surveys carried out by Fundecitrus. The first crop forecast is disclosed in May and forecast updates take place in September and December of the same year, and in February and May of the following year.
